Gluten Free
A Gluten Free Diet eventually restored my health

A Gluten Free diet brought my health back. I had suffered a long time on and of from diarrhoea, indigestion and upset stomach and I put it all down to nervousness and anxiety and I felt my health was not too good. My husband was always encouraging me to go to the doctor for a check up but I just said it is just a bit of nervousness.

Then one day when I happen to be at the doctors for a slight eye irritation I thought I might as well ask about my indigestion problems. The doctor decided to send me for a colonoscopy examination and they discovered that I had celiac disease which means I have to have a Gluten Free and wheat free diet, which eventually restored my health back to normal.

After I had been diagnosed with celiac disease I was told by the doctor to go on a Gluten Free diet and ordered to write everything down I was eatingand monitor what I could eat and what didn’t agree with me. I then went on a Gluten Free diet for a few weeks and after leaving out wheat and anything with gluten in from my diet I began to feel that much healthier in my body and my health was returning again.

Here a year after I started on my Gluten Free diet I have very little trouble with indigestion and no more upset stomach problems or bloating feeling. Now that I know what the problem was and watch what I’m eating I feel so much healthier and I still stick to my Gluten Free diet and it is great to have my health back again. It is not difficult to eat a healthy Gluten free diet it is just about being smarter.

Now that I understand so much more about this disease I just couldn’t
continue to feed gluten to my family. I know of its toxic effect it can have on the brain and immune system. I try to educate them to feel what their bodies tell them when they eat certain things and the family seem quite happy to join me in a Gluten Free diet.

Celiac disease is one of the most under-diagnosed diseases. Celiac disease affects 1 in 100 people in Australia but 4 out of 5 people don’t know that they have it. Celiac disease is an auto-immune disease, which means that the body produces antibodies that attack its own tissues. For people with celiac disease, this is triggered by gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats. If it is left untreated and you don’t start on a Gluten Free diet, the possibility of severe consequences such bowel cancer and osteoporosis increases.
